Disk Archive Corporation & Archiware P5

Robust Enterprise Archiving for Long-Term Digital Preservation

Disk Archive Corporation specializes in high-availability, high-security, enterprise-class disk-based archives and content libraries. Its ALTO systems are designed for long-term data preservation across film, television, legal evidence, military, medical, and forensic applications. Known for their robustness and reliability in demanding environments, ALTO systems are trusted worldwide by broadcasters, media organizations, surveillance companies, producers, distributors, and archives, with over 500 systems in daily operation.

Advantages of the Solution

  • Fully spun-down disks enable true cold storage, reducing power consumption to as low as 0.25 W/TB and extending disk lifespan to up to 10 years
  • No egress fees. No long restore delays. No proprietary technology or licensing constraints
  • Flexible deployment on-premises or in datacenter environments
  • Enhanced security compared to traditional RAID through real, user-configurable replication strategies
  • High-density design supporting up to 1,320 TB per 4RU enclosure
  • Scalable architecture from 50 TB systems for small teams and workgroups to multi-petabyte enterprise archives
  • Seamless integration with Archiware P5 Archive, built on open systems and standards
  • Highly robust and secure, with browser-based control of file replication, distributed system configurations, and support for removable media as well as secure vault storage options
  • User MAM-like interface with P5 Archive
  • Lower total cost of ownership over the system’s lifetime compared to alternative archive technologies
  • The system is proven in approximately 500 deployments worldwide, including high-humidity and other challenging operational environments

Together with P5 Archive, ALTO systems deliver exceptional flexibility and durability for media and file archiving. Their physical design featuring specialized filtration and fully spun down disks makes them uniquely suited to demanding environments with high humidity and dust where conventional storage solutions often fail.

P5 Archive provides a MAM like media catalog that combines archive management and workflow functionality in a single platform. It includes searchable metadata, customizable catalog fields, previews, and proxy generation to enable fast browsing and easy identification of assets. The system supports structured archiving workflows, automated indexing, and efficient retrieval, allowing users to manage large media libraries with consistency over long time periods.

P5 Archive as MAM

With file numbers growing dramatically, finding the right asset can be a challenge. An efficient system for referencing and re-use of files becomes essential. P5 Archive’s integrated mini-MAM system provides a simple solution to find and restore archived media quickly and efficiently.
